Back to the ConFurence Home Page  Volunteering for ConFurence
Thank you for your inquiry regarding volunteering for ConFurence! We are a seminar and a convention run for the fans, and (more importantly), by the fans, so any and all help is always appreciated! The second page of this document is our official Volunteer Registration Form, which we'll need you to fill out and return to us. Please do so ASAP if you wish to volunteer, and thank you again, ahead of time.

"Sir! News from the Underground!"Here's what we ask of our Volunteer staff at ConFurence: A minimum of twelve (12) hours of service, spread over the course of the three-day convention. What we offer in exchange for this service is a complimentary con membership. This can be one of two things. Either we can pay you back for your attending membership at the end of the convention at which you worked, or we can give you a complimentary membership for the next year's convention. The twelve hours worked must be done by one person; two or more cannot combine hours.

The volunteer jobs are many and various, depending on where you are assigned:
  • Con Registration involves money handling, as well as distribution of membership badges and packets, also the distribution of ribbons to those who rank them. Con registration personnel must also check pre-sold memberships, complimentary memberships, guests, and staff.
  • General Store personnel will sell T-Shirts, Cabaret tickets, etc.
  • Gophers run errands, fetch things and deliver things for directors and staff leads mostly. Thus the term gopher..You go-for this and go-for that.
  • Information personnel will answer questions about the convention and schedules.
  • Security personnel will guard doors and the lounges, making certain that only convention members enter the Den of Dealers or the Art Show, only Sponsors and guests enter the sponsor lounge, etc.
  • Art Show personnel will help to check art in or out, handle bidder registration, take money, and distribute art and receipts at the end. Other tasks may apply. Art Show personnel will work ONLY for the Art Show, as the procedures are complicated enough to require a dedicated staff to learn them.
  • SIG. Motivators will be responsible for keeping the discussions at the Special Interest Group meetings on topic, and ensure that everyone who would like to speak gets an opportunity. (Motivators are required to stay in the SIG. Room for the entire length of their assigned discussion.)
  • Video Staff will change tapes and service the machinery as needed.
  • Transportation personnel will be required to have a vehicle, and will be responsible for transporting people from place to place.

Once your work schedule is set, it is more or less unchangeable. If for any reason you need to change your schedule, or if someone from another department reassigns you, written permission must first be obtained from the head of your assigned department. In this way, we can ensure that our time slots are continually staffed. If you have any remaining questions regarding volunteering for ConFurence, please email to volunteers@confurence.com.

Still Interested? ;) Here's the Volunteer Form!
